Shallow Life

Your life is as shallow as a half dug grave;
With your smoking and your drinking and your drug-filled raves!
You think you're cool with your body full of rings,
With your implanted horns and the trash that you sing!

Your life's in the gutter - as base as can be;
With your swearing and your sex-talk and your blas-phem-y!
You think you're cool with your chest hanging out
With your mouth so vile as you scream and shout!

Your life is like rubbish that rots on a tip;
With your drinking binges, and your big fat spliff!
You think you're cool when you're high as a kite
When you go down the town and you start some fights!

Your life will end in a lonely, black grave;
Cos of your smoking and your drinking and your drug filled raves!
Nothing left behind but your bones and your rings,
Implanted horns, but no songs to sing

Deeper than the gutter - your coffin will be
No more swearing, no more sex-talk, no more blas-phem-y
No more low cut clothes with your chest hanging out.
Silence, just silence, you won't scream or shout!

Your body will rot like rubbish on a tip;
Your time is done, like your burnt out spliff.
No more highs; no flying like a kite
No more town trips and no more fights

Bonfire Night

I remember remember the fifth of November;

The kids on the corners with guys!

They'd ask for a penny,

And if they got any

Their faces would look so surprised!

I remember remember the fifth of November

The sparklers we'd all whizz around

We'd write in the air

Avoiding our hair

Then toss them burnt out, on the ground

I remember remember the fifth of November

The rockets would fly way up high

The bonfire was huge

Heat making us rouge

With excitement you'd hear us all cry

I remember remember the fifth of November

The colours as bright as the sun.

Fireworks popped and whizzed

And sparkled and fizzed

Oh those nights were such fun!

Lipstick on my face, lookin' very funny

When I grow up I wanna make lots of money

Wanna be a super star

High hopes, making tracks!

I want loads of fans

And be standing tall

Everything revolving 'round ME

Lookin in the mirror fixin my hair;

Goin on the stage; all my friends are there

Living my life as if without a care

Gonna be a super star

Gonna be a pop star

In a studio makin tracks

Gonna be famous

Not gonna go back

To bein nothin

nothin at all

I want loads of fans

And be standing tall

Everythin revolvin round ME

Lookin in the camera, paps in my face

Night on the town, I act a disgrace

Smoking dragon, I like to chase

Wish I was no super star

Wish I was no pop star

Somebody stop me in my tracks

Do I wanna be famous

Please let me go back

To bein nothin

Where nobody knew me

Where I could be small

Lookin in the mirror, high as a kite

Snorting coke, injecting China White

I begin to feel like Dynamite

Never thought I'd go this far

Do I wanna be a star?

Makin tracks with a heroin needle

Doing drugs - an unnecessary evil

It ain't good cos it's illegal

I really wanna go back

I really wanna back track

I wanna play at mummy

Cos life just ain't funny

I ain't got no money

My friends ain't there

They really didn't care

Life ain't fair

Skin on my face

Looks a disgrace

My life is in a dark, lonely place

This is a poem I wrote after hearing about the death of Amy Winehouse - singer who died at the young age of 27 after a life of drug and alcohol abuse! She joins people like Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison etc all who died at the same age! This poem isn't for Amy as such, but all those who thought that fame and fortune would bring them happiness!

I feel for Amy's parents because they have lost their little girl!

I think that’s OK

If I don’t give them any credit

They will walk away

They can choose and they can buy

From pages that are bright, that’s right

The customer with the cold hard cash

Is nearly always right, Cause they are

Buying from the Avon world

And I am the Avon girl

You know that they are buying from the Avon world

Some like perfume, some like make-up

That’s all right with me.

Some don’t order from my brochure I

Have to let them be

Some use skincare and some use deo

I just hope they pay

Only those who spend their pennies

My Avon Things - an ode to Avon

Creams in the cupboard

And gels in the shower

Avon cosmetics gives

Each girl some power

Make up in drawers and

Necklace and rings

These are a few of my Avon things

PJs in wardrobe

And soap on the white sink

Fragrance and powders

Which give out a nice stink

Splash on for our blokes;

They smell just like kings

These are a few of my Avon things

Lotions for wrinkles

And shampoo for all hair

Of course we look great

People just stop and stare

Toys for our kiddies

Lots of shining bling

These are a few of my Avon things

When the crunch bites

When the bills sting

When things are getting bad

We all take our brochures and put them through doors

We cannot be quite so sad

The Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas
And I sat in the pub
Waiting and hoping
I was getting nice grub
I ordered the turkey
and those brussels sprouts
But there came from the kitchen
One terrific shout

Everyone run
and everyone hide
We've found a mouse
Fortunately it died
But not before he'd ran
Into the cavity
Of the poor turkey
Oh what a travesty

So sitting in the pub
That eventful eve
All I could do
Was sit there and grieve
And ponder inside
Of what could have been
Of that turkey dinner
So yum and supreme

Raindrops on Roses? - You Must be Joking

I wrote this poem today (21/8/10) This is going to be added to my latest collection of poems!

Fleas on the moggies and spiders in the bath,

Come on now nature you're just having a laugh,

Wasps in the honey and bugs in the sink,

Sometimes things natural really do stink!

Mice in the cupboards and rats above ceiling,

My skin is crawling, that's just how I'm feeling,

Weevils in flour and lice in my hair,

Life can be so gross, it just isn't fair. (Hope there's no lice in my hair :| )

Moths on the curtains and slugs in the garden

Where is the mouse trap? Oh do beg my pardon

Roaches on kitchen floor, dead birds in tank

The water is green now and smelling so rank

When the fleas bite, when the wasps sting

And everything is bad

I simply keep scratching and scraping myself

And now I am feeling mad!

Feminine Oppression

If I wore a niqaj
You wouldn't see my nose

If I wore a hijab
You wouldn't see my hair
If I wore dark glasses
You really wouldn't care

I could be invisible
Be a peeking tom
Or if I was adventurous
Wear an atom bomb

Burka, Niqaj, Hijab clothes
Signs of feminine oppression
Symbols of women slaves in chains;
Of husband's sad possession

If I wore a mini skirt
You'd see more than my toes
If I wore a jewelled stud
It could be through my nose

If I did a Britney
I'd shave off all my hair
If I wore contacts
Would you really care?

I could stand out in the crowd
Be a drama queen,
Get drunk on a Saturday night
You know what I mean?

Mini skirts and skimpy tops
Lots of material possessions;
Greed and lust and gluttony,
Different oppressions

The World's Bullies

Why do our governments give in
To people who want us dead?
They want to blow us up
Or chop off our heads

They claim all our benefits
They claim we are unfair
And yet they do what they want
As if we are not there

They want their own schools
Their own laws and statutes too
And one day they will get it
Our ministers are too weak
To say NO!

They are the playground bullies
In this world of degradation
They want the world to be
Their very own nation

On the 3rd day of Christmas my true love sent to me 3 french knickers, 2 mince pies and a nice warm cup of tea

On the 4th day of Christmas my true love sent to me 4 silk suspenders, 3 french knickers, 2 mince pies and a nice warm cup of tea

On the 5th day of Christmas my true love sent to me 5 gold rings (of course!), 4 silk suspenders, 3 french knickers, 2 mince pies and a nice warm cup of tea

On the 6th day of Christmas my true love sent to me 6 satin sheets, 5 gold rings, 4 silk suspender, 3 french knickers, 2 mince pies and a nice warm cup of tea

On the 7th day of Christmas my true love sent to me 7 smooth chemises, 6 satin sheets, 5 gold rings, 4 silk suspenders, 3 french knickers, 2 mince pies and a nice warm cup of tea

The Gulf

There it is, so vast and empty
Darkness covering such a span
No way over for the person
Massive gulf 'tween God and man

Sin destroyed the pure communion
That God had with His Creation!
Gulf so dark, so vast, so empty
Separating God from every nation

There He stands in finest glory
The One to come and bridge the span
The One who willingly came from heaven
The One true God who comes as Man

Gulf so vast, so dark and empty
Created at the awful Fall
But there lies One to restore communion
Tiny Babe in animal stall

There it is so dark and empty
No way to God; all seems a loss
But on a hill outside the city
A man is nailed to the cross

The gulf so dark, lonely, empty
Is being breached by this Man
Dying to provide us with redemption
Making a way across the span

There He hangs dead on the tree
God who came from human womb
But the gulf is being covered
As He lies in darkest tomb

Oh the cross, so evil, wicked
God had used to complete His plan
The Sinless One - He now is risen
Through His death we cross the span

Where will it be? A look at the modern world of war - kinda...

Where will the next conflict be?
We've done Iraq
Now to Iran?
Just because of the
Sin of man
Will China now
Attack Taiwan?
Where will the conflict be?

Our leaders sit alone
At night and on their throne
Wondering who they can attack today!
"Will it be a town?
Something bigger to blow down
We will send the poor soldiers on their way!"

My Grampy

A long time ago
When ships had sails
My Grampy was a sailor
Sailing from Wales

His father before him
Sailed the wide blue
In ships full of young
Enthusiastic crew

My grampy sailed to the African Coast
And picked up an animal
That was finer than most

He was oh so tiny
His fur was so black
His eyes were so doleful
Nothing he lacked

My grampy brought home
That beautiful boy
Nurtured and cared for him
Like a really special toy

But that tiny monkey
Just grew and he grew
Until he was so big
My grampy didn't know
What to do

So he put round his neck
A thick steel chain
To stop him from running away
In the rain

But the creature grew so strong
It snapped every link
And bit my dear grampy
Oh! What to think!

My great-grandmother cried
"This thing is a killer!
How could you bring home
A massive gorilla?

"You must let him go
I can bear it no more
Please take this animal
Out of the door!"

"OK dearest mother!"
My Grampy replied
"I will send him off!"
"Oh good!" she sighed

"But please do not hurt him
I don't want him to be
In terrible pain because of
Your foolery!"

So great granny went out
To bring in provisions!
My grampy had to make
An important decision.

How to get rid of that
Creature so black!
To Africa he couldn't
Take him back

So he went to a neighbour
And borrowed a gun
And shot that poor creature
From the land of the sun

The moral of the story is
Do not bring back
Cute little creatures
So tiny and black

They may not be what you expected at all
Like the big black gorilla - who was 6 foot tall...

Apparently so the story goes - my grampy DID bring back what he thought was a cute little monkey who grew up to be a massive male gorilla. He did bite my Grampy (in the neck), broke his chain etc! My grampy and is brother did apparently shoot the poor thing while their mother was out - they cleaned up the house where they shot him before their mother came home and told her the gorilla didn't feel a thing! Whether this was just an adventure story made up for his kids and grandchildren, I don't know - my grampy was a character - he died in 1990!

He used to play for Shirley Bassey in the pubs before she became famous! He played banjo (and I think guitar)! Cool guy with a great sense of humour!

Looking Back...

I looked in the mirror

And what did I see?

But a lady with grey streaks

Staring at me!

She had crows feet

In the corners of her eyes

And big 'shopping bags'

Which was a surprise

It only seemed like

A year and a day

When my pals called around

And ask me to play

With their long skipping ropes

And hula hoop rings,

Magna Doodle, Gyroscopes

And those funny springs

I remember the discos

With bright spinning lights,

The hall full of teens,

The playground fights.

We used t' play two ball

And if we were lucky

We'd go to the shop

And buy some Slush Puppy

We'd go to the park

And play on the train

And climb the tall slide

Over and over again.

We'd play in the street

Until it got darker

We'd knock on the doors

Then turn, and we'd scarper.

We thought we were cool

In our bell bottomed troose

Our wide collared blouses

And our platform shoes

We listened to groups

Who wrote their own songs

We never heard of computers

And we never wore thongs!

Gone are the days of

A simple childhood

Where TV wasn't colour

Well, we thought it good.

Now we have mobiles,

Computers and Wiis

Our life seems so rushed

We don't take our ease

So as I stared back

I gave a big grin

As I just remembered

The times I'd lived in.

The lady grinned back

And so I could see

That lady with grey streaks

Was really me!

When the Lord Speaks

I wanted to have a career
I didn't want to be at home
I wanted to be like other women
So all I did was moan

I wanted to have a big house
I wanted my own car
I wanted lots of holidays
To countries, near and far

But the Lord in all His tenderness
One day, took me aside
And said - "My dear daughter!
"These I can provide

"But I didn't call you to go out to work
To have your own career
I wanted you at home so that
You'd have time to draw near

"My Son is preparing a place for you;
A mansion in the sky
You do not need these worldly things
You're the apple of My eye.

"So come, dear daughter, the one I saved,
Your life is fulfilled in Me.
I will love and provide for you
Throughout eternity!"

So now I see God's plan for me
Is to serve Him in my home
I have a peace all over me
And now I never moan.

Who praise and glorify His name
And rest upon His word

Let us be like the tree

And meditate upon God's word
And all His statutes keep

Let us produce fruit
Which yields much heavenly good
'Tis manna to the hungry soul;
Divine and filling food

The Lord must Reign

The Lord must reign within my heart;
With Him what can compare?
Possessing nought is blessedness
When our God reigneth there

The sins which I possess within
I sacrifice to God
For nought is worthy of my praise
'Cept Jesus Christ my Lord

I raise my Ebeneser Lord;
Within my sinful heart
For nought will take away your love
And you will ne'er depart

This poem was written after I had read AW Tozer's book - The Pursuit of God. Chapter 2 is entitled - The Blessedness of Possessing Nothing.
